Almost two-thirds of houses in the UK now have online access, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
The data revealed a rise of 1.2m since 2007, taking the total number of houses connected to the internet to 16.5m.
Over two-thirds of adults go online almost every day, with men more likely to use the internet than women.
But there was a rise in the number of people saying they did not want the internet at home, from 3% of those with no access in 2007 to 24%.
Those with a better education were also more likely to be regular users, the research suggested.
