Airlines in the UK have begun operating again following safety tests which showed plane engines could operate in areas of low density ash.
However, passengers have been warned they still face substantial delays due to the huge backlog the six-day flight restriction has caused. BA have stated that it may be weeks before services return to normal.
More than 95,000 flights were cancelled across Europe over the past week and an estimated 150,000 Britons have been stranded abroad. The flight restriction is belived to have cost the UK economy £1.6bn
There are fears that another, much larger volcano in Iceland, may erupt in the near future and plunge travel plans into chaos again.
