Have you ever tried to book a flight or tickets to a show and found right at the last minute there are hefty credit card charges to pay? Well following thousands of complaints about this practice and a report by the Office of Fair Trading about travel related credit card charges, the Government has stepped in to ensure the charges are in line with costs incurred through accepting cards.
This should take place by the end of 2012, sigificantly earlier than the new European ruling regarding these surcharges which may come into law in two years time.
Transparency of price is behind the move and there is one airline out there that amazingly prices their flights with a seat coming in as an extra. If it wasn't for safety rules and regs you could probably pack a collapsible stool in your hand luggage and save £50 per return journey. How much bad feeling does that cause when you have waded though their website, lured in by cheap flights, when close to the end of the deal, you have to pay extra for a seat. OFT please note!
Let's hope the credit card charges don't suddently turn up in other guises.
