HMRC Tax refund scam

There are a lot of scams around but at this time of year you may be facing a tax bill or possibly receiving an over payment  refund.

Scammers know this and send out huge amounts of "you have received a tax refund  please contact........."(and we will relieve you of all your cash) emails, known as phishing. There is also a good chance that your details will be sold on so that may not be the end of it. 

THE HMRC WILL NEVER SEND OUT AN EMAILED REFUND, NO PHONE CALLS EITHER, ONLY LETTERS!

Recently the HMRC has assisted in the closure of close to 200 websites responsible for sending out this stuff and should you receive one, forward it to:

phishing@hmrc-gsi.gov.uk
