Major chains abandon high street

Statistics from the Local Data Company produced for PwC are showing that the larger retail chains are pulling out of the high street at the rate of 14 shops per day.

Electrical and Book shops are being hit hard by online shopping and E books and are looking hard at their local presence across the UK.

Charity shops and the "everything for a pound" or less, are doing well which is where Woolworths, the now defunct chain that had a great run, started.

There is no doubt that the average high street is going through some pain and is having to change to survive, with many having over a quarter of their shops empty, waiting for the christmas retailers to open up for a month in November.

My high street is no different but it is interesting to note the number of new restaurants moving in that cause competition but also attracts punters and creates  life after 5.00pm. They tend  to be competitively priced and would you believe they are bold enough in some cases to have seats outside.

Is this the way forward?
