The tanker drivers union Unite, has been in talks with the conciliation service ACAS, to resolve the dispute and met on Monday, where a decision was expected that could effect the entire country.
However, the decision date has been extended to May21st at the latest, so Unite can discuss the deal on the table with it's members.
Should they decide to strike they need to give seven days notice before walking out and causing widespread chaos.
However, there isn't a feeling that the talks are on a knife edge and that they have been successful on a number of key points including pensions and pay issues.
