Japan has new Prime Minister

The Japanese elections have been won by the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) and Japan has a new reforming Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

The Japanese stock market has risen on the back of this result, as Abe is expected to weaken the Yen and make Japanese exports more competitive, something that has been difficult to acheive in the past.

However, with the post for Governor of the Central Bank of Japan coming up for renewal in early April, there is a possibility that a new head there, may be required to be more receptive to the new PM's policies to fight deflation and encourage growth.

Japan is still suffering from the effects of the earthquake, resulting tsunami and nuclear disaster, which caused the authorities to switch off nuclear plants, a strategy which Abe may well reverse, if allowed.
