The Falklands Islanders have just voted by 1517 votes to 3 on the right of Self Determination and they overwhelmingly want to stay a UK territory.
You have to be a certain age to remember the war between the UK and Argentine back in 1982 over the rights to the Falklands, or what Argentine terms as Las Malvinas, that claimed the lives of 900 members of the armed forces on both sides, during the two months savage war, that has not been forgotten by either side.
The Argentine sees the vote as illegal and despite what the inhabitants of the islands might want, believes the territory is Argentinian and their view and vote is irrelevant, though the Falklands has been under the UK protective umbrella since 1833.
From time to time an Argentinian Government will make rumblings of discontent about Las Malvinas but for now the residents of our far flung territory, who have been considered more British in their way of life and customs than the mainland, should be allowed to get on with their lives in peace.
