Samsung, the massive Korean technology company, locked in an ongoing battle with Apple in the production of mobile hitec products, has released the latest in a line of smartphones, the Galaxy S4, in an effort to break Apple's dominance in the US.
It will be released in the UK on April 26th and Samsung hope that it will sell over 10 million units a month globally in 155 countries.
Novel features such as eye movement control have been included, plus voice activated commands and improved camera functions have been added to make life tougher for the Iphone, especially in Europe where Samsung is dominant.
The launch in New York sends out a clear signal to Apple that Samsung intend to take them on in their backyard. Not great news for a company that has seen its share price drop from a high of US$ 700 to US$ 432 and is being increasingly seen as running out of the ideas that made Apple products "must haves" whenever they were released.
Apple's recent token upgrades to the Iphone and Ipad, while changing the method of connectivity at further expense to customers and consigning thousands of accessories that can not connect to the latest Iphone, to the trashcan, has caused the ranks of Apple loyalists to look around beyond their slavish devotion to one brand and there is now a worthy second choice and other alternatives are not that far behind.
