Many people who work from home on seasonal tasks such as making Christmas crackers or stuffing envelopes are not being paid the national minimum wage, a study by The National Group on Homeworking claims.

BBC Five Live reports that the organisation claims the true situation could be far worse than it has currently uncovered as very few of those who have complained are from ethnic minorities, who may be unaware of their rights.

The body claims an estimated 3m people work from home, with many involved in seasonal and manual activities.

The minimum hourly rate for adults aged over 21 is £5.52 an hour.
