The Queen is set to open the new parliamentary session today, with an outline of the Government's expected bills, that will include the major pension reforms announced in the March budget. At the ripe old age of 88, the Queen is believed to have deferred her pension indefinitely.

With the current coalition Government having a year to go before polling day, business during this period will be comparatively brief, with pensions taking centre stage and the Government stating that the Queen's speech will be "pro work and pro business"

The State opening of Parliament ceremony goes back to the 16th ceremony and sets out the legislative agenda for the next parliamentary period of of approximately a year, written by the Government but delivered by the Sovereign of the day at the House of Lords. This period though is expected to end with elections taking place on May 7th 2015, not allowing a great deal of time for the rubber stamping of much legislation
