UK Unemployment continues downward path

Figures released earlier today from the ONS (Office of National Statistics) show UK unemployment for the three months to the end of March, fell to a new 7 year low. The jobless total is now 1.83 million a reduction of over 35,000 from the previous quarter to 5.5%

The figures reported were the lowest since 2008 and the UK now has a workforce of over 31 million people.

The Bank of England spoiled today's party a little, releasing lower growth expectations for this year, now forecast at 2.5% from the previous GDP estimates of 2.9%, with the UK wage bill looking to increase by 3.5% this year. A warning that although many of the key component parts of the UK economy are moving in the right direction, not all of them are and the Government will be watching wage settlements and the overall wage bill very closely throughout 2015.
