The unemployment rate in the UK remains unchanged for the three months to July, with a total of 1.63 million out of work from a total workforce of 31.8 million, 174,000 less than the figures reported to April. No Brexit effect here then but with only a month after the "out" vote included in this period, no conclusions can be drawn.
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) data, also shows salary growth levels dropping from 2.3% to 2.1% and with less money available, consumers might be inclined to rein in on any off plan purchases. Not good with Christmas approaching, a period key to many retailer's whole year.
