The UK's biggest retailer has announced that it will stop accepting cheques from customers from 25th February.
The supermarket giant believes customers will benefit from increased levels of security and faster checkout service as a result of the move.
Tesco admits the move might cause anxiety among certain customer groups, with the elderly likely to be the worst affected. It said it would be training staff to advise customers on other payment methods.
Marks & Spencer recently followed other high street names in refusing to accept cheques.
