Internet search engine Google has been voted the top brand in the UK by 1,500 marketing professional in a survey by branding specialist Superbrands.

Google is followed in the list of brands with the best reputation by Microsoft, BP and the BBC, which took top spot in 2007.

"The top 10 positions are dominated by companies who are either British stalwarts such as BA and BP - like GlaxoSmithKline - can trace their origins to the UK," said Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands Council.

The remaining positions in the top 10 were made up of GlaxoSmithKline, Rolls Royce, Financial Times, BA, Fedex Express and Hertz in that order.
