A quarter of people would like to start their own business and almost a third (30%) would like to embark on a different career, a survey by Bradford & Bingley found.

The research also suggested that more than half (53%) of those aged over 35 would like to travel more in the future.

“Over-35s need not despair as there is plenty of time for them to change their lives for the better,” said Paul Whitlock, head of savings at Bradford & Bingley.

Recruitment agency Fuse Jobs said it welcomed the findings and pointed out that a change of career is not just restricted to those in their 20s.

“We spend more than a third of our lives at work so job satisfaction and work/life balance is integral to people’s well-being and happiness,” says Matt Haikin, director of Fuse Jobs.

“Opportunities to seek new career challenges have never been greater,” he added. “With the growth of the service industries and the demand for transferable skill, the range of employment opportunities available is better than ever.”
