Eureka
moment
I'd been working in a hospital for a number of years with people who were
struggling with their weight, so already had a great deal of experience in this
area on nutrition. I knew there were lots of diet delivery companies springing
up, so I thought I'd give them a try myself. They ranged in price from
£30-a-day to far more economical options, the food quality also varied hugely
and none of them offered support. I wanted to offer people wanting to eat
healthily and reach health and weight loss goals something different -
something affordable which didn't compromise on the quality of the food and
offered all the support they needed. Jane Plan was born!
Financing
At first, I didn't have any big ambitions and worked from home initially, with no injection of capital. I was extremely lucky because we received some amazing press coverage and had lots of word-of-mouth recommendations, so I didn't have to spend on marketing at all in the early stages. As the business grew, all profits were ploughed back into the business. So with no capital investment at all we are profitable, cash flow positive and aiming for our fifth year turnover to be £5m.
Regrets
I have no regrets, of course I've made mistakes, but there's no point in regretting them, it's best to learn from them and move on and of course not make them again!
What would you have changed?
I shouldn't have worked from home for so long, it made family life quite a challenge and my poor neighbours had to put up with lorries in the street and pallets being delivered to a residential London address. But apart from that I wouldn't have changed anything - I have loved every minute. Helping people achieve life changing goals is the most rewarding job in the world. I have an amazing team and we are all 100% dedicated to our client's success.
