The Motivation

With over eleven years experience in the wine industry, James has developed a genuine passion for sourcing and selling the very best handcrafted wine from around the world. Deeply caring about organic, natural and additive free wines and realising that very few companies were selling these in the UK, as well as also having a wealth of experience in the industry behind him, James knew it was time to set up Pull The Cork  [1]in 2017.

Tips for those starting a business?

It is so important that you really know the industry in which you want to start a business in, otherwise you have set yourself for a very difficult task. Researching is vital too.

Research as broadly but as thoroughly as possible, and ask as many questions as you can - even if this means ringing different companies that you don't necessarily know that can help you with getting the information you need. And of course, make sure your business plan is up to scratch!

Most interesting thing you have learnt about running a business?

I've realised just how much difference good marketing can make to your overall sales - things can end up taking off when you are not expecting them to as a result.Wine Barrels

Essential skills you need for creating a business?

Alongside having excellent research skills, I believe that having a forward-thinking approach when setting up a business is very important. Having a creative flair definitely helps too.

Favourite wine?

I would definitely have to go with the Cellers Ànima Negra from our collection. It's a rare red wine sourced from the very vineyard it is named after in Majorca. It is a medium to full-bodied red wine from Majorca with a smoky aroma.
