The 2018 edition recognises innovation and the dedication of those entrepreneurs from start-ups to established businesses based throughout the United Kingdom.

The list celebrates a diverse number of entrepreneurs; of all different ages and from all around the United Kingdom. Over 55% are from outside of London, including locations such as Huddersfield, Manchester and Belfast. The average age on the list is 43 with the youngest, Jordan Daykin from Grip-It, just 22 years old.

One sector which contributes largely to the list is food and beverage with 11 businesses named. The index also celebrates modern technologies sectors such as applications, with SuperCarers, an elderly care app, and Peanut, a matchmaking app for mothers.

Entrepreneurs included in this year's prestigious index include:

Tom Blomfield; Monzo

The app-based bank won a full banking licence last April, and lets its 600,000 customers open current accounts, pay direct debits and set spending goals. A £70m fundraising last year valued the 32-year-old's London start-up at £280m.

Jordan Daykin; Grip-It

Daykin, 22, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, invented his universal plasterboard fixings while installing curtain rails with his grandfather in 2008. He is the youngest entrepreneur to win investment on the BBC's Dragons' Den.

Joe Frankel; Vegware

Edinburgh-based Vegware makes fully compostable coffee cups, takeaway boxes and carrier bags from sugarcane and corn starch. Frankel, 42, capitalised on the backlash against plastic waste, and last year turned over £14.9m.

Michelle Kennedy and Greg Orlowski; Peanut

Kennedy, 35, who helped set up dating app Bumble, teamed up with Orlowski, 39, a former executive at Deliveroo, to launch their matchmaking app, based in London, for mothers in February last year. It has helped 300,000 new mothers make friends, start businesses together or find nanny share arrangements.

Adam and Daniel Pike; SuperCarers

The business was founded in London in 2014 by brothers Adam, 32, and Daniel, 30. The start-up matches vetted carers with elderly people and their families. They set up the business after their grandmother struggled in a care home.

Mike Biscoe, General Manager, Maserati GB, said: "It's great to see such a diverse mix of talented individuals who are all doing something incredible in their chosen fields of business. Maserati was born from the dedication and hard-work of entrepreneurs' Alfieri Maserati and his brothers, so we feel it only right to honour and support entrepreneurs today who are shaping the very future we will live in."

Sunday Times Business Editor, Iain Dey, said: "With the 2018 Maserati 100 we are recognising brilliant innovators at all stages of the entrepreneurial journey - entrepreneurs who have taken a bold idea and are putting it into practice."
