UK Unemployment higher

Figures released from the Office of National Statistics show a small increase in the amount of  unemployed from 3.8% to 3.9% an increase of 22,000 in the quarter to August. Economists are pointing the finger at Brexit as the cause for this reversal in the UK job market, still at a very low level however.

It is not clear how many Thomas Cook jobs will be lost as yet that may filter through into the next quarter's figures but overall this figure not a catastrophe. It did cause a small drop in the value of sterling, following the ONS announcement.  The risk to the currency and the jobs market until Brexit is finally resolved is most definitely on the downside to both.
