Eureka moment
At age 30 or so I needed a new belt. The one I'd made for myself when I was 19 inexplicably no longer fitted. I looked around for one, and literally no-one I could find made anything decent. A brain worm was born, a need was identified and the rest is history.

Financing

We've reinvested profits and invested our own money. The business has no debt and no external investors. We could have gone down either route, but we can concentrate on sustainable organic growth and not be forced into cutting corners to satisfy shareholders or service debt. We are answerable to ourselves and our customers and we're able to develop products as we see fit.

Regrets

That there aren't more hours in the day! Given a 48-hour day there's so much more that could be achieved!

What would you have changed?

Looking back, I would have been braver. We spent a long time not having enough faith in our convictions and we could be further forward in our plan if we had more confidence earlier.

To quote Murray and Goethe "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation),
there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!"
