Eureka
moment
I was working out in the gym and on yet again another low-carb diet, and I was
craving pasta. I thought to myself: ‘There must be a low-carb alternative out
there'. I got on my phone in between sets and tried to find something to no
avail, so I
thought I'll do it myself.
Financing
I put a business plan together, showed my to-be father-in-law and he could see the opportunity, so put up the £4,500 I needed to get started. I created the website myself and even helped with the graphic design work and created my brand to save money. The noodles were flying online and I soon hit cashflow problems and knew I needed further investment. I thought where better to try than Dragons' Den? But I really didn't think I would get as far as I did, even with a great product!
Regrets
The only regret I had was not starting the business sooner. I had the idea for
a whole year before I did anything about it. It took a great woman (my wife
Kelly) to give me the push and confidence to achieve my dreams.
What would you have changed?
I can't say I would change a thing. Everything that's happened in business and in our personal life (losing three children to miscarriage) either helped me learn my business or gave me the will to succeed no matter how hard or tough things become. When I left the set on Dragons' Den, successful after an emotional presentation, I thought I knew a bit about business but now after the help and advice from Peter Jones's team, I can actually say I do know something! But you can't be taught drive, ambition, passion and the will to succeed
