35,000 new cars bought using scrappage scheme
Over 35,000 new cars have been ordered through the new scrappage scheme since its inception in April, according to official government figures.
These figures equate to one in five of new car buyers using the scheme, which provides a £2,000 discount when a new car is bought and a car over ten years old is exchanged. The money is equally provided by the government and the car industry.
"It is encouraging to see the scrappage scheme get off to a good start. Hopefully this momentum will continue providing the embattled automotive industry with a much-needed boost," said David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce.
