BCC urges action on crime
A leading business group has urged the government to make more of an effort in cutting crime against businesses.
A survey by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) claims crime costs companies £12.6bn every year and revealed that 59% of businesses had suffered at least one criminal incident in the last 12 months.
The BCC claims the lack of a common definition as to what counts as a crime against business means different police forces treat it in different ways, and called for crime against businesses to be a key performance indictor for police forces.
"Businesses are the lifeblood of communities and crimes against business have a damaging impact on both the economic growth and future prosperity of local areas," said the BCC's director general David Frost.
The Home Office claims incidents of commercial robbery against companies has fallen by a third since 2001.
