Cameron calls for red tape to be cut to help small firms
David Cameron has called on the government to cut red tape so that small businesses have more chance of securing government contracts.
"Government has got to do a lot more to help small businesses, they are the lifeblood of the economy," the leader of the Conservative Party commented as he announced his party's small business package.
"The Government hands out contracts every year for £125bn, but fewer than one in five actually goes to small businesses."
The Conservative Party's small business package pledges to scrap the rule that requires companies to provide three years of audited accounts when bidding for government contracts, to introduce a requirement that all government contracts worth more than £10,000 are published and sets a target for 25% of all contracts to be awarded to SMEs.
The Conservative Party recently unveiled a raft of measures designed to help SMEs, including cutting payroll taxes by 1p, allowing VAT bills to be deferred and reducing the small company corporation tax.
