Business Advice for all UK firms from starting a business to flotation
Entrepreneurs tell government to tackle late payers
Entrepreneurs believe that the government should make tackling late payers its priority in order to help small firms, reveals a poll by the UK Business Forum.
Over 40% of small business owners commented that getting customers to pay bills within 20 days is the most important measure that would assist them in the current economic climate.
While bank lending has received lots of media attention, only 8% of respondents believed that increased bank finance was the most important factor in helping their businesses.
"Amid all the talk of how much money banks are providing to small businesses, it is interesting to see that the vast majority of entrepreneurs actually think that it is cash to which they are already entitled that should be the main priority of ministers," said Dan Martin, administrator of UK Business Forums.
"With the Federation of Small Businesses recently warning that big companies are holding their small business suppliers to ransom, it is vital that Alistair Darling includes in his pre-budget report measures to tackle the problem," added Mr Martin.
The second most popular measure in the survey was a cut in small business corporation tax, cited by 18% of respondents.
