Eurozone unemployment hits new high
Unemployment throughout the 17 Eurozone countries has risen to 10.7%, according to figures just released from Eurostat, though the individual jobless rates widely differ. This equates to a total figure of 16.9 million people and if you include the 27 countries who are part of the union but do not use the Euro, the figure rises to just over 24 million, or 10% of the total workforce.
The highest rate is in Spain, where the figure is a massive 23.3% and like Italy (9.2%) the figures are still rising, with Austria having the lowest rate at 4%.
UK unemployment is currently standing at 8.4% and still rising.
