Fourth energy company raises prices
I am not sure that the big six energy companies realise how much bad feeling they generate amongst the UK public by rasing their prices in unison but our readers certainly feel as if they have little consideration for Joe Public. Especially when they reel off huge profits at the end of their financial year or half year.
British Gas for example unveiled a massive 23% rise in profits in July so there is no trading crisis going on there for sure, with 12 million customers on the books and Npower booked a 34% increase in the bottom line back in March.
Scottish Power have joined, British Gas, Npower and SSE with a 7% price rise from December, leaving little alternative if you want to jump ship, with only E.ON and EDF of the UK Energy giants with prices currently unchanged.
The fact that these price increases happen within days of each other makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes.
The UK consumer doesn't seem to have many friends these days, certainly as far as energy, banking and fuel are concerned.
