Glasgow underground users get mobile phone access
Commuters to Glasgow's international financial services district (IFSD) are among the first people in the UK to be able to use their mobile phones on the underground network.
Those using the subway system can now make calls, send texts and access the internet on station concourses and platforms while waiting for trains, although there is not yet the capability to use phones while on the move.
"Glasgow is investing heavily in providing world-class communications and infrastructure support for its 30,000 financial services personnel, over half of which work within the IFSD," said Jim Watson, director, company growth, at Scottish Enterprise.
"The City Council and Scottish Enterprise work with businesses to establish what they need to improve their commercial competitiveness and state-of-the-art mobile communications is one of the key requirements for modern employers."
Other projects in the city include a £50m investment in a broadband network and a new rail link connecting Glasgow airport with the city centre.
