Job vacancies at lowest level for a decade
Job vacancies and appointments have fallen to their lowest levels for over a decade, according to a survey of more than 400 recruitment and employment consultancies.
The survey, conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and consultants KPMG found that job vacancies are at their lowest levels since 1997.
“The terrible news from the equity markets and the broader economic front have led to a steep fall in the demand for permanent and temporary jobs across most sectors of the economy,” said Mike Stevens, head of business services at KPMG.
The survey also revealed that pay rates have fallen for the first time in five years as an increasing amount of workers chase fewer job opportunities.
