Offshoring creating IT skills gap
Junior IT staff have seen pay levels and job prospects stagnate because of the trend by companies to relocate services to India, research by the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCO) claims.
The organisation's research suggests annual salaries in the most junior positions have not risen for the past five years as people have been put off entering the trade due to the competition from abroad.
As a result, there is likely to be a shortage of managerial candidates in the UK over the next few years, ATSCO added.
"It is like removing the bottom rung of the ladder," said Ann Swain, ATSCO's chief executive.
"The shortage now is of candidates with a few years' experience looking for second and third jobs. But how do you get that experience if entry-level jobs are being sent offshore?"
