Over half of small firms have experienced data loss
Small to medium-sized businesses rank electronic backup as one of the most important computing priorities, but over 50% of these companies have experienced data loss, according to research by computer software company Symantec.
The research also reveals that of those companies that suffered data loss, over 30% missed sales because of it, 20% experienced a decline in sales and 40% said the incident caused ‘severe disruptions.'
Despite the downturn in business that loosing data causes, many small firms are still not adequately protecting themselves.
"In a small or mid-sized business, where money and staff time are at a premium, there's always something more pressing to do than manage backups," admitted Chris Schin, senior director at Symantec.
More than half of small that firms that do employ backups to important infomration keep it in the same place as the original - exacerbating the risk of loosing data.
