Royal Mail -Huge price increases
Royal Mail has announced massive increases in the price of sending mail, with first class stamps from April 30th costing 60p, a 14p increase and second class also up by this amount to 50p, that represents a 39% increase in the price of "snail mail".
The Government would have liked to offload Royal Mail sometime ago but negative market conditions have made it impossible to package a loss making company in an attractive manner and these price rises go someway to making the company saleable in the near future.
Ofcom, who have regulated the prices that Royal Mail can charge, no longer set the rates for the Royal Mail, which allows RM and any purchaser to raise rates through the roof if they feel like it.
With regards to greetings cards, easter, christmas, birthday etc. there are many green alternatives out there now that will allow you to send E cards at low or no cost using email, if you have it of course, that saves paper and a lot of money.
There are also other mail carriers available who have kept up with the digital age and make money at lower carry rates, unlike Royal Mail.
