Small firms warned over security lapses
Over 40% of small businesses are at increased risk of theft due to security lapses in the summer, according to data released by insurance company Hiscox.
The survey of small and medium-sized businesses revealed that 44% of SMEs say their staff are more causal about closing windows and setting alarms in the summer months and 20% of respondents have arrived at work to find that a window has been left open or the alarm has not been set.
At a time when cash flow is tight and an office theft could be devastating to a small business, the survey found that basic security lapses at company premises are putting SMEs at risk.
"The summer months are a prime time for burglaries and it is crucial for small businesses to take all of the necessary precautions against office theft," said Sam Franks, small business insurance expert at Hiscox UK.
