UK unemployment falls to 7.9%

In an economic environment that is challenging to say the least, any good news is welcomed, so an improvement in the unemployment numbers to 7.9% of the UK workforce from 8.1%, is heartening. 

The numbers of unemployed fell by 50,000 to 2,528,000 as reported by the ONS (Office of National Statistics)

Workers in part time employment now total 8 million, the total number of people in the UK with jobs of some kind coming close to 30 million, a new record.

The improvement also extended to the young, where unemployment in the 18-24 category, dropped below the one million level.
