UN approves Libyan no-fly zone
The UN Security Council has voted in favour of imposing a no-fly zone over Libya, as Libyan Government forces close in on the rebel held city of Benghazi.The Council consists of 15 members with ten voting for, with China, Russia, Germany, India and Brazil abstaining.

The UNSC made it very clear that there will be no occupational force in Libya but action to prevent the Libyan air force wiping out all opposition in Benghazi and Tobruk is iminent. This will probably involve armed forces from key Arab states also, following extensive diplomatic activity in the region.
Colonel Gadaffi has threatened "no mercy" on those opposing him in Benghazi and his airforce made three airstrikes on various targets in the region yesterday.
On the ground, the UN resolution was met with great joy by the rebel forces as Gadaffi tanks head towards Benghazi.
