Figures released from the ONS this morning have come out slightly higher than wishful thinking economists have predicted, at 3.8% for July versus 3,6% in June. Surprise surprise! some of the increase has been caused by higher air fares in the school holiday period and food prices seems to be going one way only that equates to paying more for less, something the major supermarkets have been throwing at their customers for some time. However, these higher prices seem to be accelerating across the board with recent strategies seen to justify 30- 50% weekly prices in some areas, is to have the wrapping marked as "new recipe".
While we are on the subject of massive price increases, Thames Water have just passed on to the beleaguered consumer, price increases closer to 50% , who are now paying for years of incompetence , high salaries and dividends paid while racking up billions in debt that may require a tax payers bail out. All this while pumping sewage in millions of gallons, into former healthy rivers. None of this is currently included in today's higher inflation figures, but will be soon with 4% inflation, double the target figure only a month or two away.
