Who is he?

Born on the 10th of March 1940, Chuck Norris studied martial arts in Korea in the 1950s. At the time, he was helping in the U.S. Air Force. Norris soon opened his karate studio when he returned home. He moved to film industries in the 1970s, featuring with Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon. In the 1980s, Norris became a popular action-film star and featured in his television series in the 1990s.

Early Years

Chuck Norris is the eldest of three boys and he once described himself as ‘'the shy kid who never excelled at anything in school.'' Norris moved with his mother and brothers to California at the age of 10. In 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Holechek. Throughout the same year, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Norris began studying martial arts while stationed at the Osan Air Base in South Korea. In 1962, he worked as a karate instructor.

Martial Arts Specialist

Chuck Norris opened more than 30 karate studios in the 1960s. He taught several celebrities, including actor Steve McQueen and Priscilla Presley. In addition to being an instructor, Norris was a strong competitor. He took part in various martial arts tournaments, and he won almost all of the events he competed in. In 1968, he won his first World Middleweight Karate Championship title. Norris defended this title five more times.

Film Star

Chuck Norris made an impact on movie-goers in 1972's Way of the Dragon. One of the best parts of the movie was a fight scene between Norris and martial arts star Bruce Lee. It was performed in the famed Roman Colosseum. He had his first starring role in 1977 in the action film Breaker! Breaker! People loved to watch him hand out justice to bad guys in movies, such as Forced Vengeance and Good Guys Wear Black.

If you are one of his fans, you will remember his cop movie, Code of Silence (1985). Norris received warmer reviews for this entertaining film. He soon teamed up with the legendary guy Lee Marvin for the military action film The Delta Force (1986). Since his box-office appeal was beginning to fade by the early 1990s, he made the switch to the small screen with Walker, Texas Ranger.

Activist

The star has been a long-time supporter of various charities, including the United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He started his charitable organisation in 1992 called Kickstart.
