Guernsey is the second largest of the Channel Islands. A
hidden gem set in the bay of St. Malo between France and the UK, the Island’s
individuality and international outlook has made it a popular destination for
personal and business relocation.
Conveniently situated only 30 minutes flying time from
London Gatwick, Guernsey boasts a wide range of quality talent working in our
financial, legal and professional services sectors, so relocating or
establishing a new business on the Island is simple. Whilst geographically
closer to France, Guernsey is English speaking, in the same time zone as the UK
and enjoys a milder climate. Guernsey has its own democratically elected
pro-business government and sets its own laws. With an internationally
recognised regulatory system and a world-class financial services industry,
businesses have access to world-class professional talent. The Island has a highly
skilled workforce and a progressive Employment Permit Policy for those needing
to recruit staff from off-island.
For the majority of companies corporation tax will be 0%
whilst in certain identified sectors some will pay 10% or 20%. Income tax is levied at a flat rate of 20% with
caps available and there is no inheritance or capital gains tax.
Personal relocation is also refreshingly straightforward
due to the Island’s two-tier property market. Whilst Guernsey’s Local Market is
essentially reserved for those with familial connections to the Island or those
holding Employment Permits, the Open Market provides an easy route to
residency. Holders of UK passports or those with Right of Abode in the UK can
become resident in Guernsey simply by purchasing or renting a property in Part
A of Guernsey’s Open Market. Unlike some other jurisdictions there is no
application process for new residents, no minimum tax take, and no minimum spend
when purchasing a property. This allows people to live in Guernsey indefinitely
if they wish to, work for any employer, set up or run a business or simply live
off savings. For non-UK passport holders, visa options are also available - Locate
Guernsey can provide more information about these.
Whilst some might initially
consider Guernsey for tax or business reasons, they stay for its quality of
life, friendly community, and safety. The Island offers a high standard of education,
excellent healthcare, clean fresh air, and low levels of crime. It is naturally
very beautiful and with a typical commute taking less than 15 minutes, our
enviable work/life balance makes it much easier to live life to the full.
Guernsey offers a better and more balanced life, and the Locate
Guernsey team are on hand to help make this a reality. A government agency
established to promote the benefits of Guernsey for potential relocators, the team
provide free support and guidance at any stage of the relocation process.
