bmi taken over by Lufthansa
British airline bmi is being taken over by the German operator Lufthansa in a move that will make it the second biggest airline at Heathrow airport.
Lufthansa was already a 30% stakeholder in the British airline but has now increased its stake to 80%.
bmi operates from 15 airports in the UK including Manchester and Heathrow and has a fleet of 54 aircraft.
The rising cost of fuel and falling customer demand over the past 12 months has seen much consolidation in the airline industry, with Zoom, XL and Sterling all going out of business.Post Date: October 30th, 2008
