RBS group announces large branch closures
Citing the changing nature of banking and the way in which customers use their banks accounts, the RBS group is closing 259 branches across the country. Nat West, part of the group, will see just under 200 branches close, with RBS losing 62. While they wish to minimise job losses, around 800 of the 1,000 staff positions involved are expected to go.
The increasing usage of mobile and online banking is the reason behind the closures with customers having less and less reason to visit the local branch and visits down by 40 % in the last three years.
Customers will be given 6 month's notice before the axe falls on their branch and the full list of closures can be found here
